Restaurants Near Defiance Wine Country, MO
The lakeside dinner you didn't know was waiting at the end of your wine trail day.
Defiance, Missouri is the gateway to one of the best stretches of wine country in the Midwest. Chandler Hill, Sugar Creek, Yellow Farmhouse, Montelle, Augusta — a string of family-owned wineries that pulls thousands of visitors out from St. Louis every weekend. The Katy Trail runs right through. The Daniel Boone Home is around the corner. And by mid-afternoon, every visitor on the trail is asking the same question: where do we actually have dinner out here?
The Quarry is the answer most locals give. We're a 26-acre lakeside restaurant, wine bar, and live music venue just 12 minutes east of Defiance on Highway Z. Chef-crafted American food, a wine list that complements (rather than competes with) what you tasted at the wineries, an outdoor turf and patio area on the water, indoor golf simulator bays for rainy days, and live music most Friday and Saturday nights. We were built to be the dinner anchor for everyone who's been on the wine trail since noon.
Why The Quarry is the 12-minute drive worth making
Here's the situation if you're planning a Defiance day-trip: most of the wineries close at 5 or 6 p.m. The tasting rooms are amazing, but they're not built for a full dinner — most have light food, charcuterie boards, or seasonal grill menus, but the moment the sun starts dropping you need somewhere to land for a real meal. Driving back into St. Charles or downtown St. Louis kills the vibe of the day. Driving to Wentzville drops you back into chain country.
Twelve minutes east of Defiance gets you to The Quarry instead. You leave the last winery, follow Highway Z, and arrive at a property that feels like a continuation of the wine country experience, not a return to the suburbs. Our wine list was built specifically with Missouri vineyards in mind — a lot of the producers you tasted earlier in the day are on our list. Our chef takes the same locally-sourced approach the best winery kitchens use. And the lake outside is the kind of place you actually want to linger over dinner.
If you're hosting friends from out of town for a wine country day, planning a wedding weekend that includes a winery rehearsal dinner, or just wrapping up a Saturday on the Katy Trail, this is the dinner you're looking for.
